Tom Sawyer Character Descriptions

Tom Sawyer is the main character in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and he is a boy with a love of messing around. The thing about Tom is he wants to be more of a rebel like his friend Huckleberry Finn but I think he has a good side too. He begins to feel bad for all of his sins when he returns from a visit at the graveyard when he witnessed a grave robbery and a murder. At this part in the novel, I think Tom Sawyer will begin to feel bad for all that he has done wrong and try to act like a better boy until he gets bored and finds some mischief to get into.

Huckleberry Finn is a boy like Tom when it comes to getting in trouble but Huckleberry Finn gets in even more. He is a troublemaker, adventurous, rebellious, a rascal, nosy and even a pusher, but I think Huck has a good conscience. Huck Finn seems to be Tom's role-model and teaches him certain tips like how a dead cat can cure warts in a graveyard at night. Also, it seems like Huckleberry Finn can do whatever he wants in the eyes of Tom Sawyer. He doesn't have to go to school, church and can just wander around town looking for trouble.

Sid is Tom Sawyer's young brother who seems to be a suck up to his aunt. When Tom was getting tried to see if he had skipped school to go for swim Aunt Polly was just about to let him go when Sid reminded her that she sewed his collar on with white and Tom had resewed it with black thread. Also Sid seems to be a goody good and wants perfection.

Becky Thatcher is a girl that Tom first had his eyes on. They went to the same school and were in the same class. Tom believed she was very pretty and he told her that he wanted to be her boyfriend. Becky seems to be a very loyal girl, sensitive, and also pretty shy but she opens up when she's around Tom. Tom and Becky didn't work out because Tom told her about all of the other girlfriends he has had which made her cry and run away.

Aunt Polly is a hardworking and a tough guardian of Tom. She tries hard to be fair when it comes to punishments for Tom because she wants him to learn his lesson each time he does something wrong. Her punishments aren't cruel but they feel that way to Tom. He hates to have to do big chores on Saturday when all of the other children are playing. Aunt Polly watches over Tom, Sid and Molly (The actual birth daughter of Polly.)

  1. Good job, Emily. You've nailed it.

BTW, I'm sure Polly's daughter's name is Mary, not Molly.
